Raising the fashion barre: This spring everything from shoes to make up will be influenced by ballet.
Following my previous blog about ballet inspired fashion, the trend has gone crazy. So here is an update with even more ballet fashion.
The S/S 2011 catwalks told us that ballet dresses and skirts were on the horizon but the ballet inspiration has gone into overdrive, affecting everything from sports wear to make up. Pastel pinks, peaches and creams are the colours to be seen in and channelling ballet warm up gear is the new cool. Topshop ia already ahead of the game with some great ballet warmer inspired cardigans…
This season ASOS are stocking ballet label Bloch and have lots of own brand floaty and feminine blouses and skater dresses. Reiss has some to die for skater style dresses and Warehouse’s new season is inundated with ballerina pinks and chiffon tops. (see below)
If you are more of an ‘Odile’ (black swan) than an ‘Odette’ (white swan), then fear not. There is plenty of edgy ballet wear out there. Both Gipsy and Wolford have funky, black ballet-esque tights and there is an abundance of black lace pieces on the high street.
The top looks:
1) Tutu and skater skirts
2) Buns – low, high and plaited.
3) Wrap cardigans
4) Pastel make up
5) Elegant sportswear: Sweaty Betty has catsuits and floral lace patterned camisole vests this season and their yoga and pilates collection draws inspiration from the ballet colour palette.
6) Ballet flats: Chloé’s entire s/s collection is a cornucopia of ballet inspired pieces and is the place to go for luxurious ballet pumps.
